FAQs
Will you travel to my home?
I will travel to clients’ homes dependent on the distance from Skipton. I find online tutoring to be highly preferable for most students, despite most students’ and parents’ initial hesitations, because it saves the effort of needing to be constantly switched on via an in-person interaction. After a long school day, a session which is slightly more relaxed is generally really useful for most students, and they generally prefer the more relaxed nature of a Zoom call, allowing them to complete work in pyjamas or otherwise.
I do not offer group tuition as I do not consider it an effective method for preparing pupils for increasingly competitive entrance exams. Students always have different gaps in their knowledge and even with two students it’s generally difficult to make the same level of rapid progress.
Do you set homework?
Absolutely, as and when. Homework is a crucial part of the process. My pupils are set homework regularly specific to their weaknesses. I also strongly encourage all my pupils to read something challenging every day. This is a good habit for life more generally.
Will my child be safe?
Of course. Ace Tuition Skipton takes the safeguarding of children very seriously. I am fully DBS checked, and fully trained with regards to safeguarding issues and PREVENT.
What level should my child be at before starting?
I will conduct an initial assessment of your child’s level and give you consistent, honest feedback as to their progress. There is no set starting level, but there must be some personal motivation to succeed. It is, ultimately, a joint effort to succeed in tutoring, shared between student, parent, and tutor.
Can you guarantee our child will get a grammar school place?
No, I cannot guarantee that your child will gain entry to a grammar school. However, I can significantly increase your child’s chances of success with passing the test, and all my students have passed by a significant margin up to press.
When should 11 Plus tuition begin?
Each child is different, but generally, I recommend beginning when your child is at the start of year 5. Some parents begin when their child is in year 3 or 4 to maximise their child’s chances of success. I’m also more than happy to take on students who need last-minute, intensive revision sessions, but I cautiously say to manage your expectations if this is what you’d like.
